How Does Cloud Hosting Work?

What is cloud web hosting in fact? The word 'cloud' seems to be quite modish in today's computing, Internet and web hosting terms. Yet, just a select few in fact know what cloud hosting is. Perchance it is a good idea to educate yourself about cloud web hosting services. To make a very long story concise, we will firstly notify you about what cloud hosting is not.

1. Cloud Web Hosting is Not Restricted to a Remote Data Storage Solely.

1. Furnishing a remote file storage solution, which comprises one file storage tool for all clients, does not convert any given hosting distributor into a genuine cloud web hosting packages provider.

The cPanel web hosting firms dub the ability to supply remote file storage services a cloud web hosting solution. So far there is nothing bad about the cloud terminology, but... we are talking about web hosting solutions, not remote file storage solutions for individual or corporate needs. There's always one "but", isn't there? It's not sufficient to call a shared web hosting solution, based on a single-server web hosting platform, precisely like cPanel, a "cloud web hosting" solution. That's because the other components of the whole web hosting platform must be working in exactly the same manner - this does not relate only to the remote disk storage. The rest of the services involved in the entire hosting process also have to be remote, separated and "clouded". And that's extremely difficult. A very small number of hosting service providers can truly accomplish it.

2. It Involves Domains, Mail Addresses, Databases, FTPs, Hosting CPs, and so on.

Cloud web hosting is not restricted to a remote disk storage only. We are discussing a hosting solution, serving a lot of domain names, web pages, e-mailboxes, and so on, aren't we?

To call a web hosting service a "cloud web hosting" one requires a lot more than furnishing merely remote data storage mounts (or probably servers). The electronic mail server(s) need to be devoted just to the email linked services. Doing nothing else than these particular procedures. There might be only one single or perhaps an entire assortment of email servers, based on the overall load created. To have a true cloud web hosting service, the remote database servers should be operating as one, regardless of their real quantity. Doing nothing different. The same goes for the customers' hosting CPs, the FTP, etc.

3. There are Cloud Domain Name Servers (DNSs) as well.

The DNSs (Domain Name Servers) of an authentic cloud web hosting vendor will support multiple data center facility sites on multiple continents.

Here's an instance of a Domain Name Server of a true cloud web hosting provider:

dns1.flexhosted.net

dns2.flexhosted.net

If such a Domain Name Server is provided by your hosting services provider, it's not a guarantee that there is a cloud hosting environment in use, but you can absolutely be confident when you discern a DNS like the one beneath:

dns658.hostgator.com

dns659.hostgator.com

that there isn't any cloud web hosting platform. This type of DNS plainly shows that the hosting environment in use is one-single-server based. Perhaps it's cPanel. cPanel is a single-server web hosting solution and maintains a 98+ percent market share. In cPanel's case, one single server deals with all web hosting services (web, e-mail, DNS, databases, File Transfer Protocol, web hosting CP(s), web files, and so on).

Remote File Storage - The Perverted Interpretation of Cloud Web Hosting.

So, a cloud web hosting solution is not limited only to a remote data storage solution, as multiple service providers wish it was. Unluckily for them, if that was the case, the majority of the file web hosting distributors would have been referred to as cloud hosting ones a long time back! They are not classified as such, because they plainly supply file hosting solutions, not cloud hosting services. The file web hosting platform appears indeed quite plain, when compared to the hosting platform. The remote data storage platform is not a cloud hosting platform. It cannot be, since it's just one small component of the entire cloud web hosting platform. There's a lot more to be encountered in the cloud hosting platform: the hosting Control Panel cloud, the database clouds (MySQL, PostgreSQL), the Domain Name Server cloud, the FTP cloud, the electronic mail cloud and... in the near future, probably a few new clouds we currently are not familiar with will emerge out of nowhere.
